Everyone knows the rules.
Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy recently dined on his favorite three slices of pizza in NYC — no doubt going to war with the public for his holy trinity.
“I don’t want to cause a fistfight,” sports guru and celebrity pizza reviewer-turned-philanthropist told Bilt Rewards CEO Ankur Jain. “John’s of Bleecker, Lucali and Luigi’s. That would be the three that are all up there.”
Each of the NY locations will be at Portnoy’s One Bite Pizza Festival coming up September 14th on Randall’s Island.
Lucali, the iconic little restaurant lined out the door in Carroll Gardens, is the proud product of chef Mark Iacono, who opened a nearby shop, Baby Luc’s, a few summers ago.
A few blocks up, west of Prospect Park is the grounds for Luigi’s and has been since 1973. It’s also the iconic filming location from “Big Daddy” where Adam Sandler’s character Sonny teaches young Julian (Dylan and Cole Sprouse ) on how to fold properly. a piece of New York.
As for returning to the Village, John’s is in constant conversation as one of the best and most iconic pizza spots in NYC.
While talking to Jain, Portnoy also talked about what kind of pie he really prefers.
“I’m a cheese guy. Gold medal slices, perfect for the Olympics,” said Portnoy.
“This is what you judge everything else by.”
He also compared his factory default choice to more exotic opinions like the White Clam Pie from the famous Frank Pepe of New Haven, Connecticut.
However, sometimes the Boston sports apologist jazzes things up.
“If I’m off the clock, then I’ll make peppers and onions,” he added.
Portnoy spoke with Jain after playing Bilt’s Rent Free contest, where the neighborhood loyalty rewards brand — known for its sweet perks given to customers at the beginning of each month — will pay the rent for 10 lucky individuals.
The Barstool boss did this at the same time he placed a $100,000 bet on Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever to win the WNBA championship.
It would pay a lot of dough – $10 million to be exact.
